Show Private Key

Updated today

The only thing standing between you and total loss. Treat it accordingly.

  • Open your Chimera App.

  • A new window will open.

  • On the bottom navigation bar, tap "Settings".

  • In the "Setting" section, tap "Show secret key".

  • A new window ("Backup") will open.

  • Under the Private key, you will see the message "For your eyes only, do not share." and a masked field.

  • Tap "VIEW PRIVATE KEY" and authenticate with your passkey or biometric when prompted.

  • Your private key will be revealed. A confirmation message will display: "This is enough to restore your wallet."

  • Write the key on paper. Store it offline. Somewhere only you can find it.

  • Scroll down to Enable Nostr backups to toggle encrypted cloud-style backups to the Nostr network on or off.

IMPORTANT Write your private key down and store it somewhere it can't be lost or read by anyone else β€” a steel plate, a safe deposit box, offline. Paper survives. Phones don't.

IMPORTANT Your private key is your money. Whoever can sign transactions owns the funds. No bank, no support line, no appeal. That's the trade-off of self-custody, and that's the point.

IMPORTANT Your private key is the only way to restore your wallet. Lose it, lose everything. No exceptions, no recovery.

IMPORTANT Nobody legitimate will ever ask for your private key. Not Chimera Wallet. Not support. Anyone asking is trying to steal your funds. Full stop.

IMPORTANT Never storing the private key digitally presents risks. Store your key digitally at your own risk.

IMPORTANT Nostr backups are an optional additional layer. When enabled, your encrypted backup is distributed across the Nostr network so you can restore your wallet even if you lose your device. This does NOT replace your private key β€” it complements it. Review the feature's details before enabling.
